A sweet little ruru (morepork) with the biggest eyes stares out into a swirling star-filled misty night sky nestled within a blanket of leaves. The scan doesn't do justice to the lovely luminescence (but see video below).
Created with Schmincke's super-granulating "Haze" watercolours, I built this piece up into richly textured moody artwork using a limited palette of subtle blues and browns, accented with handmade gold watercolours. The granulation creates fascinating and unpredictable patterns on the textured cold press watercolour paper as the pigments settle into the nooks and crannies. With lots of water loading, it literally requires you to "go with the flow" and trust in the outcome.
This original watercolour painting is on the highest quality 9x12" 140lb Arches 100% cotton cold-press watercolour paper.
Paints: Schmincke Horadam Aquarell Haze black, brown, blue, and indigo; Daniel Smith buff titanium, Csy Art Gallery moonglow and crystal gold handmade watercolours.
