Welcome to Art by JLM 🎨
Kia ora - I’m Judi — an artist and wildlife nerd based in Wellington, New Zealand.
Through my art, I tell stories about Aotearoa’s incredible birds and wild spaces — from bold and bolshy tūī to secretive ruru, curious kākā, and more.
Each piece starts with wildlife photography, then evolves into richly layered digital artworks that celebrate the beauty, resilience, and character of our native species.
I donate a portion of proceeds from selected works to conservation projects, because art and advocacy can go hand-in-wing.

from 114 reviewsI bought Her Mystery Tiny Art as a gift for a friend and loved it so much I have gone back to get one for myself.
I have bought Mr Tui for my daughter in law after loosing our son to cancer. He loved nature & there were always tuis in his garden. Your work is amazing. I wish I could afford alot more. X
This made for a great gift for a colleague who cherished the gift as he headed into retirement.
Just lovely and Judi was super helpful when I had some questions.
Beautiful art work and the frame is amazing looks so much better in person.
Love both the tui and fantails as our favorite NZ native birds and these earrings show off their beauty in the best way as the earrings are light weight and move with the breeze so it seems that the birds are flying! Lovely look and creative colours to enhance these beautiful birds so they will last a lifetime!!
Glazed for Water Resistance & Strength
Earring Fittings: Surgical Stainless Steel, perfect for sensitive ears
Length: 4.0 cm
Width 1.2 cm The size of these beautiful bird earrings is perfect as they are light weight for comfort and the colours are lovely too! We do love our native NZ birds and this is a creative way to showcase these birds to enjoy life and beauty!!
I recently purchased a very limited edition of this print. I particularly wanted the 40x40 size, contacted Judi to see if she could locate one for me as it said "sold out" on her website. Judi very kindly sold me her "proof" of it. I got it framed in Christchurch by Mark Ferringa of Picture Framing Gallery, Raycroft St, Opawa. He did an amazing job for $135.00. This is one amazing artwork, would love to have more of Judi's work in my home.
As NZ bird lovers we were fascinated by Kakapo and Keas when we first visited South Island. This superb pair are amazingly depicted here in a tree where the surroundings enhance their serenity of life in NZ! Kudos to the artist and photographer!!
We have loved NZ native birds ever since we moved to NZ 31 years ago!! Judi's photo is amazing as it catches mom and baby bird cavorting together - like a fan dance for family entertainment!!
Love the Giclee Ruru on the pearl photo paper which is perfectly placed and printed on the photo paper and just the right size! We have many art pieces by NZ and Australian artists as well as American artists, that we had limited space for our birds collection, so this print fit in perfectly!! My Mom had an owl collection when growing up, so have been fond of them over the years and the Ruru by Judi is the perfect encore and Father's Day gift for hubby, along with the new Forest and Bird book!!! Additionally, Judi wraps the photo beautifully in gift paper and an owl card for free!!!!
I fell in love with this ruru a few months ago but never actioned it. When I saw it again recently I knew I had to have my own print. Those penetrating eyes melt my heart every time I look at it, in a way I can't describe!
I was lucky enough to gain the first limited edition of this print at the Napier Girls High School art show last month. It is absolutely stunning and framed beautifully. Thank you Judi, this will always be a treasure.
I am currently overseas so have not yet seen my purchases - can’t wait though. One is a gift (if I can bear to give it away) and one for me. I’m sure I’ll love them as much as the previous cheeky Birdwatcher which evokes a laugh every time someone sees it.
This is this most gorgeous print, the detail is incredible!
