What is washi tape? It's super-cute, low-tack, decorative masking tape. Use it to jazz up your journal, add to your craft project, pep up your day-planner, augment your scrapbook, wrap gifts, mask artworks (especially watercolours), and stylise your stationery stash.

Washi is easy to tear by hand or cut with a dispenser. The tape is semi-translucent and although sticky, is easy to remove from most surfaces without damage or residue. Pro tip: if you use washi to mask the edges of a watercolour painting and want to be sure not to damage the delicate surface when you remove it, you can heat the washi gently with a hair dryer or a heat gun on a low setting to soften the glue first.

Eco-creds: washi tape is made from paper and comes on a cardboard inner core. Both are biodegradable and compostable. Washi tape makes an eco-friendly (and pretty!) alternative to sellotape.
