For the first time, I took a walk in nearby Khandallah Park and was entranced by a sea of multi-coloured autumn leaves! Usually, when I do these 3x3 observational studies, I cover a range of flora and fauna I've seen on a walk. But this time, I found was so much variety in these leaves I had to capture that diversity. I'd never seen this shape before either - it took a bit of research, but eventually, I found they are Tulip Tree leaves (related to magnolias). They also have a gorgeous flower.
The leaves ranged from green with yellowing veins to yellow and green splotchy leaves, pure yellow, golden leaves starting to rust, and those fully brown and crumpled, shot with burnt orange. Each was unique and beautiful. Regardless of their decay, the edges of all were singed with crinkled umber and black, giving a gorgeous outline to each. They demanded to be painted!
About the artwork
Painted on the highest quality Arches 300 gsm cold press paper, the original is 15x23cm. The limited-edition giclee prints are A5 size (15x21cm), printed on fine-art paper. There are 30 in the limited edition. I used a range of autumnal shades, mostly from the Daniel Smith range, including Nickle Azo yellow, Quinacridone Gold, Burnt Umber, Quinacridone Burnt Orange, and a touch of MaiMeriBlu pure Indigo Blue.
Many of my original paintings are embellished with pearlescent accents. I also embellish the fine-art prints made from these originals, creating a unique piece of art in the process.
