Pīwakawaka | Fantail Art

The pīwakawaka (New Zealand fantail) is one of Aotearoa’s most beloved native birds: cheeky, chatty and unafraid to get in your face. Whether flitting through the bush or “helping” in the garden, fantails bring me so much joy.

Some people see pīwakawaka as messengers; others feel the presence of loved ones when a fantail appears. Whatever this lively little bird means to you, I try to capture its personality in my artworks: bold, playful, sometimes reflective and always full of life.
