The perfect piece for kākā lovers! So many thoughts and emotions are captured in this gorgeous kākā portrait — she's inquisitive, plotting something for sure, but also somewhat coy about it. She wants to know what you're up to! Her gentle nature shines through.
Would you believe I photographed this beautiful kākā from my front door? Here in suburban Wellington, just 10 minutes from the CBD and Parliament, we have rare and precious birds in our backyards! Although she's unbanded — with no rings on her legs — she undoubtedly descended from the Zealandia population, which has long since spilled out of the fenced sanctuary and into the wider Wellington region. Linton and I have volunteered in the kākā conservation programme at Zealandia for well over a decade, so to have them in our garden now, living wild and free, is the most special thing you can imagine. Kākā are my muse, and thus the name of this piece.

I just love Kaka, they are the coolest bird!! Judi has captured the cheekiness of the kaka perfectly, and the colors are just amazing 🙂. This is one of three of Judi’s prints I bought, they will look stunning displayed together 🙂. Thanks Judi 🙂
I'm so glad you got my most favourite kākā print! She'll make a great pairing with your ruru.
